When applied to spectacle lenses, multilayered broadband anti-reflective coatings noticeably increase the amount of light transmitted through the lenses and substantially eliminate the reflections from the front and back surfaces of the lenses.

As the index of the lens material increases, the reflectance increases and consequently the transmission decreases.
